The Play

When time has passed and I am worn
Upon this wrinkled brow is borne
Of conquests long since forgotten
And treasures won, spent, and begotten

Cracking knees speak of prayers spoken
In times of need and a soul so broken
Upon this back, life’s burden was laid
And with every breath a debt was repaid

And finally as I lay me down to sleep
I know that nothing was meant to keep
A world, a stage, upon which we play
Another act will begin as we fade away

Until my last breath
My last gasp
I will be here
Trying to explain

The simplicity
We have lost
In the mêlée
We maintain

And to say Adieu
As I go from here
I will shed no tear
As I will see you soon.

A sigh revealed

Too long covered

Virtue and sin

Melded to one

Earth and sky

Taste of life

And knowing is

The return of love

Land Of Dreams

Nothing is, as it seems

Veiled and false

In this land of dreams

Beauty covers pain

Deeply hidden

No one is to blame

What you may want

Others become

Farther from the Fonte

Cut the subtle vein

The horror within

As life yields to pain

And awaken, please

From this play

You have the keys

What will I miss?

Not the travesty of life

The uncaring hordes

Those trampled underfoot

Not the mindless cruelty

Levelled on the innocent

By those clad in ego and suits

Not the anguish every day

That I was here, and others not

That I could not save

I will miss dawns filled with mist

Soft silence, in wooded places

Solace in solitude

I will miss all mankind

In all their degrees

Praying they may learn

I will miss the pain

The pain that taught me

That I lived

In This Time

I find myself here

Never by choice

As no one does

Day to day

Arise and we do

What we must

I often question

What I have become

And I try to trust

That I am guided

By some hand

Knowing what I was

This turn of the wheel

Pray I clean the slate

Of what I am

Retribution is harsh

Yet I accept the price

And do as I must

Joy is within this

Life as it is

This game of trust

And I bow now

To one who was

Always, a better man.

I am unseen

the unknown

meekly I live alone

by choice, I live

as I will die

no legacy left

no one to cry.

If by chance

I choose to act

in charities pact

I take no thanks

I am unseen

as never here

A bow in a dream.

I was you

as you were me

the One ever free

I never came

you never went

though it seems

A life was spent.
